AMENDED POLICY

An amendment allowing a grade of Near Pass to only be awarded to the last unit to complete and undergraduate course was approved by Faculty Board on 7 May 2007 and will apply to all commencing students from 2008 and to all other students from 2010.

The Near Pass policy  applies to the undergraduate degrees (single and double) managed by the Faculty of Business and Economics.

This policy does not apply to honours or graduate students. Graduate students may apply for supplementary assessment for a mark of 40 - 49 per cent in their last unit to complete their course, and should contact their Student Admin Office for further details.

1. Summary

An undergraduate student may be awarded a maximum of one Near Pass grade (NP) for a unit confirmed as the last unit to complete their degree.

Students enrolled in undergraduate courses managed by the Faculty of Business and Economics who fail a unit with a mark between 45 and 49 per cent, which is confirmed to be the last unit necessary to complete a course of study, will be granted a Near Pass in the unit provided that they have completed all the work for the unit and have sat the final examination.

This grade cannot be granted until all outstanding grades (i.e. deferred or withheld grades) have been converted to marks, and it is confirmed that it is the only unit required for course completion.

2. NP grade is counted as a pass

A Near Pass awarded for the last unit for degree is counted as a pass.

3. NP Grades and course transfers

Units with NP grades will not be counted for credit transfer purposes if a student transfers courses.

4. NP grades and degree requirements

Students can take out their award with a maximum of one NP grade.

5. NP Grades and second degree

If a student subsequently enrols in a second undergraduate degree credit will not be awarded for any unit with an NP grade.

6. Professional accreditation

Students wishing to receive professional accreditation are advised to contact the relevant professional body to determine the status of NP grades.
